Dr Stephen Duma
Consultant Neurologist

Dr Duma obtained his medical degree from the University of Sydney and completed training as a neurologist at St George and Westmead Hospitals. He later completed further subspecialty training in movement disorders as the Professor John Morris Movement Disorders Fellow at Westmead Hospital, under the supervision of Professor Victor Fung and Associate Professor Neil Mahant.

Prior to embarking on a career in medicine, Dr Duma completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and Masters in Biomedical Engineering at the University of NSW. Following on from his Masters thesis, he then completed his PhD thesis relating to pre-clinical Parkinson’s Disease at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRa) under the supervision of Professors Tony Broe AM and Olivier Piguet. His passion for, and involvement in, research remains, currently holding a position of Honorary Research Assistant at NeuRa.

In addition to practising as a neurologist, Dr Duma is passionate about teaching. He is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer for the University of NSW and has previously lectured for the University of Sydney. He often gives presentations regarding movement disorders to medical students, fellow doctors and patients and caregivers. He has also had the honour of presenting to colleagues at international conferences.

Dr Duma is a member of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN), American Academy of Neurology (AAN),  International Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Society (IPMDS), Movement Disorders Society of Australia and New Zealand (MDSANZ), International Headache Society (IHS), Australia and New Zealand Headache Society (ANZHS) and others.

He is a member of the Clinical Outcome Assessments Scientific Evaluation Committee of the IPMDS, and is a former Councillor for the MDSANZ, having organised the quarterly educational sessions for the Sydney Chapter.

In addition to General Neurology, Dr Duma has subspecialty interests in Parkinson’s disease and other Movement Disorders (including tremor and dystonia), headaches, and the use of botulinum toxin for the treatment of these and other neurological conditions.

Dr Julia Thompson
Consultant Neurologist

Dr Julia Thompson is a consultant neurologist with extensive training in Sydney and the UK, including fellowships and research at Oxford University and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. Having working as a consultant neurologist in London she is currently a senior neurologist at Prince of Wales Hospital and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and provides rural outreach clinics in Tamworth. Her clinical expertise spans headache (including interventional headache), neuroimmunology and autoimmune neurology, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, and the use of botulinum toxin for a range of neurological conditions, alongside broad experience in acute and general neurology.

Dr Thompson has conducted research with the Oxford Autoimmune Neurology Group and has published on autoimmune epilepsies, including LGI1 encephalitis, with ongoing international collaborations. She is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (AFRACMA) and has undertaken leadership training within the NHS, reflecting her strong commitment to clinical leadership and service development.

A dedicated educator, Dr Thompson is a clinical lecturer, RACP examiner, and award-winning teacher. She is an active committee member of the Australian and New Zealand Headache Society (ANZHS), contributing to improving access to headache care and education. She is a regular speaker at events relating to neurooncology, epilepsy, encephalitis and headache.She regularly presents at national and international conferences, delivers clinician and patient education, and provides expert neurological commentary across media platforms. She holds memberships with major international organisations including ANZAN, ANZAN, RACP, RCP, FAAN, ABN, IHS, AIHS, ILAE, and MDSANZ.
